What do you know about the long-run fiscal conditions of your court?  How do you obtain that knowledge?  What information do you need to make long range plans?  How do you stay informed about your financial environment?  What information is available?  How do you get it?  What “political spin” is placed on information from various sources?

In good times and bad, trial court leaders are duty bound to help new judges overcome the everyday difficulties they encounter in order to excel in their new profession.  How do we do so and leave a legacy of service and mission driven jurists?  Can we prevent the urgent (shrinking resources) from driving out the important (better judges)?  Ms. Sharp has successfully helped the leadership at the Superior Court of Arizona in Maricopa County (Phoenix) do so.  Her insights and experiences offer helpful advice to us.

The media is often assumed to be at odds with the court or in the business of exposing bad news and sensational stories that reflect poorly on the court.  Yet, some courts have found ways to collaborate with print and television news to promote accurate facts and positive stories about court budget problems.  How do they do it?  Are techniques transferrable to other courts?
